A little love note can go a long way.
They can be short...
...or they can be long...
They can say "good morning"...
...or they can say "good night."
They can be for safe travels...
...or for happy birthdays.
Just a simple way to tell someone you're thinking about them. Lance and I emailed hundreds of love notes to one another when we were dating and he was living overseas for a year. I've scribbled notes on bathroom mirrors. He's hidden index cards in bathroom drawers.
Before Lance left for Nepal, I collected various cards and stationary and numbered the envelopes for the dates he would be gone. Initially, I thought I would just do one card for his birthday and another for our anniversary. But then I decided to do something similar to this.
Some notes are short and sweet... a simple verse maybe. Others are more lengthy... love notes straight from the heart. I stamped the envelopes with my awesome vintage number stamps... one for each day he is gone...
Then I stacked them up... tied a pretty bow... and hid them in his backpack.
Happy travels Lance... I miss you like crazy.

I love this, Julia. I actually just found a stack of notes and cards that I gave Joshua last year. :) I did something very similar to what you're doing for Lance when Joshua went on a choir tour our freshman year--just after we got engaged. I wrote a note or letter for every day he'd be gone and tied the envelopes in a stack. Then he wrote a note on the back of each one for me to read when he came home. It was great. :)

Those little love notes tied to household things are INCREDIBLE. One day :)
josh & i were long distance for his first 2 1/2 years of medical school. i wrote him constantly. sometimes short & sweet, other times long & encouraging.
then, the last couple of times he's been on medical mission trips, i've slipped photos of me, the boys, etc. into the pocket of the scrubs he'd wear each day. he loves finding the familiar face in his pocket each morning when he's thousands of miles away, and i know lance loves it too!
