the art of journaling

In yesterday's thankful thursday post I talked about my new journal and my resolve to pick up the pen more often. There is just something so exciting about a new journal... the crisp clean pages... the smell of new paper... the possibilities within the empty lines. In college I was an avid journaler... but the habit slowly faded and it's something I truly miss.
There's just something so powerful about putting pen to paper... something therapeutic about giving your thoughts a permanent home. There is no right or wrong way to collect your thoughts... there are many different types of journalers out there...

...some are list-makers....

...some are artistic...

...some are colorful...

...some are prayerful...

...some are classic...

...some are creative...

Are you a journaler?? What kind of journaler are you? Or maybe you're like me, and you're finally dusting off the pages and reuniting with your pen?

OMG! I think this was part of my New Years Resolution last year..I didn't do it as much as I should have but it's still something I love to do!

I know you can do it! I can't wait to read about all the exciting new entries!

Happy New Year Julia!!! Blessed 2012!

it's so therapeutic isn't it?! also I love an extra fine point sharpie that just writes and writes without having to put a ton of pressure on the page...nothing like your hand falling asleep while you're trying to write...apparently I've given a lot of thought to this topic...yikes. i am a combination of all of these...especially the prayer one.

I would say that like my mom I am a story teller and a list maker

I kept a journal during high school and the first of college. I love the idea of making lists in one. This could be a new goal for me!

Starting in middle school I wrote in a journal every day for about three years. It tapered off my senior year and I haven't had much time since being in college. Most of what I wrote was mundane, everyday things--what I did for school work, what else I had done that day, some of what I was thinking and feeling. The best part of that habit was the several (really awesome) trips I took during that time: to camp, to Hong Kong, to a youth gathering, to Mexico. Those times have been recorded in my fifteen-some journals.

I have a few empty ones, a really pretty one in particular that I just got from a friend for Christmas. I'm planning to, at the very least, begin a gratitude journal, counting my 1000 gifts this year. Now I just need a good pen. :)

i was a big journaler in high school and college. every year for Christmas my dad (who is also a journalist and probably cultivated my love of writing) would give me a new journal. I liked those ones from the office supply store with the lined paper, but a date printed on each page. It encouraged me to write a bit each day. sometimes it was a simple recounting of my day, but other times it was an outpouring of my feelings and emotions. either way, it's something i think i miss too. hope you find a simple pleasure in recapturing that hobby.

I love journaling! I have a journal that I write to Chandler for him to read when he gets older, and my Christmas gift to Brent was a journal that I started writing for him. It's a great way to get out your thoughts and feelings!
